Introduction to Noteworthy Resources

In 1980, a piano teacher and her rock-organist-turned-businessman husband added a  second daughter to their family.  Any child of that union would, naturally, have some interest in music.  The piano teacher made sure that the child was motivated to learn music.  The businessman made sure the lessons were paid for, but took the time to make sure she learned jazz riffs as well as Bach preludes.  They provided a house full of music for their four kids and I, the aforementioned daughter, had everything from violin lessons to AP Music Theory classes.

It is my hope that this website will be a valuable resource for any student of music.  There is a solfege section because my one peculiar talent is the ability to sing any song that I know, from The Star Spangled Banner to the Telemann Viola Concerto, in solfege.  Since I know that there are many who struggle with sight-reading and solfeggio technique, I decided to spread the love and provide an educational resource for anyone who thinks that "Do, a deer (Do-Re-Mi)" is just a funny song about nonsense syllables.

The "SHMRG" section owes its creation first to Jan LaRue who coined the term and second to my mother, Rosemary Olsen, who wrote her Master's thesis on the application of Jan LaRue's technique in learning and teaching music.
